The strange and weirdly beautiful terraced pools of Pamukkale have been appreciated for over two millennia and yet still remain a little known wonder of the world.
Pammakale means Castle of Cotton but the Greco-Romans built a town above it called Heirapolis which means Holy City or Sacred City. They too recognized it as a rare and important place attributing healing powers to the milky-white waters.
A lot of domestic and foreign tourists travel each year. Pamukkale Travertines, the springs of Pamukkale gave rise to these geological phenomena cover a wide area. In this area, there are several hot water springs which have temperature between 35 until 100 degrees. The thermal springs of Pamukkale form an integral part of the regions potential for tourism and have been popular since ancient times.
From just looking at the pictures, it would be very easy to mistake the waters as very cold. But the truth is hot springs are vast there! They look like terraces of hot springs… People who have gone there are very lucky!
